Brazilian Leather Law (Law No. 4,888/65)
Did you know it’s forbidden to use the term “leather” for materials that are not of animal origin?
Law No. 4,888/65 ensures consumer protection and the appreciation of the legitimate industry by prohibiting misleading terms such as “synthetic leather” or “eco leather.”
This legislation is essential to maintain transparency in consumer communication and to reinforce the value of genuine leather — with traceability, durability, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
At SPM, we support and comply with the Leather Law. Our work is guided by ethics, authenticity, and respect for the entire production chain.
